Michelangelo Buonarroti (1475–1564) was an Italian Renaissance sculptor, painter, architect, and poet, widely regarded as one of the greatest artists in history. He is best known for his marble masterpieces “David” and the “Pietà,” as well as his monumental frescoes on the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel in the Vatican. Michelangelo also designed the dome of St. Peter’s Basilica, leaving a lasting mark on architecture.
