It examines their religious, social and symbolic meanings, their production and use, and the way these small metal objects reflected pilgrimage, devotion, identity, fortune and everyday life in the Middle Ages. The publication presents archaeological finds and art historical interpretations, placing badges and insignia within the broader context of medieval material culture.
