Exhibition in the Bruggemuseum - Gruuthuse from 22 September 2006 until 4 february 2007. This richly illustrated issue explores medieval pilgrims’ badges and profane insignia from the Low Countries. It examines their religious, social and symbolic meanings, their production and use, and the way these small metal objects reflected pilgrimage, devotion, identity, fortune and everyday life in the Middle Ages. The publication presents archaeological finds and art historical interpretations, placing badges and insignia within the broader context of medieval material culture.
