Britain in AD 59 stands on the brink of revolt as tensions rise between the Roman occupiers and the native tribes. Young cavalry officer Marcus Julius Severinus, raised among the Britons yet loyal to Rome, believes that both cultures can coexist, but he is drawn into the conflict that erupts after the mistreatment of Queen Boudica and the Iceni by Roman authorities.
