Article number 10159951
Set of 12 photographic postcards devoted to the Water Temple (水御堂, Mizumido) at Honpukuji, a Shingon Buddhist temple on Awaji Island in Hyogo Prefecture, Japan. The Water Temple was designed by renowned Japanese architect Tadao Ando (安藤忠雄) and completed in 1991. The complex is celebrated for Ando's characteristic use of exposed concrete, geometric forms, natural light and the relationship between architecture, water and landscape. Visitors approach the temple through a striking oval lotus pond and descend beneath the water level to the sacred interior. The postcard set presents photographic views of the temple and its architectural setting, while the accompanying Japanese information card describes Honpukuji and the Mizumido and gives architectural details, including Tadao Ando Architectural & Associates as design supervisor, a site area of 2,990.75 m², building area of 859.47 m² and completion on 14 September 1991. An attractive collectible souvenir and visual document of one of Tadao Ando's notable works of modern Japanese Buddhist architecture.
