The Young Van Dyck
Article number 10173129
The Young Van Dyck examines the formative years of Anthony van Dyck’s career, from his teenage debut at age fourteen to his departure for Italy at twenty-two (1613–1621). In just eight years, he produced more than 160 paintings, among them such masterpieces as The Taking of Christ, Saint Jerome in the Wilderness, The Entry of Christ into Jerusalem, The Lamentation, and The Crowning with Thorns. Through over 280 full-colour illustrations, the volume traces his rapid artistic development, his engagement with Rubens and other contemporaries, and the emergence of the dynamic, refined style that would make him one of Europe’s most celebrated portraitists.
