This book is a collection of tactical marks and camouflage systems of Luftwaffe a/c in WW II. Everyone interested in War Aviation knows that archives and collections during the war were mostly destroyed or lost. There was only one possibility of procurement: One person had to activate all idealism and to correspond with all addresses in question to get at the material. This »material« consisted of old and sometimes blurred photos or dented pieces of Dural from which was gradually built a true collection. Skill was needed to collect all the material originally but also highly skilled drawing was necessary to reproduce it. This person is the author of this book – Karl Ries. It is really amazing how Herr Ries again and again makes it possible to reconstruct such long forgotten or unknown insignias of Luftwaffe a/c by detailed investigation, so completing this subject more and more. He so worked out a useful foundation on which further research on Luftwaffe unit-histories can be based. Beyond that many former Luftwaffe soldiers will find in these books remembrance of a past period in their lifes. Last not least the immense community of modellers all over the world will profit from the contents between these pages, being able now to give their creations that last certain touch of authenticity. However the reader of this book may judge German History between the years 1933 and 1945, he will find it hard to evade the fascination of the generally original and humorous insignias our former Luftwaffe pilots painted on their aircraft.
