Greene Graham
La puissance et la gloire
Article number 10124161
Often cited as Greene's greatest novel, "The Power and the Glory" is set in Mexico during the 1930's state campaign to suppress the Catholic Church. Greene had been an agnostic before he met his wife in the late 1920s, after which time he became a highly thoughtful and serious Catholic. He nevertheless lived a rather indulgent life, and moderated in his religious views later in life. Greene moved to southern France in 1966, and remained there or in Francophone Switzerland for the last 25 years of his life. The true first edition (published in London in 1940) is highly desirable, and extremely scarce signed. This first French edition, also scarce signed, is an appealing alternative.
